A true Craftsman at work

Every once in a while something extra special happens in our Lodge meetings, and the brethren attending the installation meeting of the Duke of Kent Lodge No. 5818 held on Saturday 8th October 2011, witnessed just such an event.

W. Bro Gordon Gracie, Past Master and a member of the Lodge since 1964, designed and constructed a pair of unique kneeling stools for use during Lodge meetings and ceremonies. Gordon who has spent most of his working and retired life as a highly skilled Cabinet Maker and Joiner, constructed the stools using mahogany that came from what was once his shop counter in Staplehurst, and English oak. He painstakingly carved the Lodge crest, which is the Royal Coat of Arms on the back panel of each stool, identifying them unmistakably as the property of the Lodge. Gordon presented the stools to the newly installed Master of the Lodge, W. Bro Ian Low and in doing so he stated that,
quote ‘I amused myself making the stools and had some fun in doing so’.

W. Bro The Rev. Ronald Gamble, who was representing the Deputy Provincial Grand Master in Charge at the meeting, kindly blessed the stools and said,
quote ‘These stools were made with love and will now be used in love by the Lodge’

The brethren applauded Gordon for his craftsmanship and generosity in making and donating such a treasured gift.
