History of the Agricola Lodge
AGRICOLA LODGE (No 4501)
Founded in 1923 the Agricola Lodge originally drew its membership from local farmers and associated business people, such as feed and equipment suppliers, distributors, and so on. It now has a very wide membership, including businessmen, police officers, teachers, prison officers, sales representatives, a pharmacist, a computer consultant, and a surgeon, as well as a number of retired chaps from many walks of life. Member’s ages range from early thirties to octogenarian. The lodge has more than fifty members.
A vibrant and very friendly lodge, Agricola is very well known and respected throughout the Masonic Province of East Kent and beyond, for performing first class ceremonies. It contributes regularly to both masonic and non-masonic charities, and is a strong supporter of local hospices such as the Heart of Kent Hospice at Aylesford, and the specialist children's hospice at Demelza House near Sittingbourne.
This is the lodge for you if you are looking for a wonderful combination of friendliness and formality, fun and seriousness – and it meets on Friday evenings, so enables you to thoroughly enjoy your Freemasonry without worrying too much about that early start for work the next morning.
Socially, we have a Ladies Festival dinner and dance each year, plus an annual Lodge of Instruction Supper, an annual Race Night, and our very popular Cheese & Wine Party every summer, which has a unique atmosphere (being held in a barn at a local farm) and is really good fun. Each of our social events helps us to raise money for charity and benevolent funds, and many of the events focus on family and friends, with children and non-masonic guests being made most welcome. |
